BEFORE
AFTER
This formal garden area is part of a 3/4 acre plot in Torquay. This was a 'makeover', we were not asked to design the garden from scratch. Instead, Naila was asked to look at the planting with a particular eye to providing more colour and interest.
She did, however, feel that removing the border against the hedge (to the right in the top photo) would ensure that the visual focus was on the formal border.
A scheme of existing and new plants, as well as massed bulbs, has revitalised the planting. Six new Prunus serrula increase the sense of height and perspective and their glowing, almost, crimson bark is a particularly cheering feature in low winter sunshine.
The simple and inexpensive addition of three Long Tom terracotta pots emphasise the perspective effect, enliven the bland gravel space, and are designed to be planted up wth a succession of flowers to provide interest throughout the year.
